Peta Bonham-Smith appointed interim dean of college

Peta Bonham-Smith has been appointed interim dean for the College of Arts & Science effective July 13, 2015. The appointment will be for a period of one year while the search takes place for the next dean.

Peta Bonham-Smith earned her BSc from Wolverhampton Polytechnic UK in 1979 and her PhD from the University of Calgary in 1987. Dr. Bonham-Smith joined the University of Saskatchewan (Department of Biology) in 1994. Peta was the director of the Virtual College of Biotechnology from 2000 – 2002; department head of biology from 2008 – 2010; and vice-dean, sciences from 2010 – 2015. She received a USSU Teaching Excellence Award in 2001; the YWCA Woman of Distinction in Science, Technology & the Environment in 2002; and a Division of Science college Teaching Excellence Award in 2009. Peta has served as the Botany associate editor since 2005. She was also a board member of the Saskatchewan Research Council from 2002 – 2014, serving in the capacity of vice-chair from 2010 – 2013 and acting chair from 2013 – 2014.

Peta takes over the college’s leadership from Peter Stoicheff as Peter transitions into his new role as the 11th president of the University of Saskatchewan.
