Stained Glass: Basic Foil Techniques Workshop

$130 plus $50 for materials and use of equipment
Prerequisite: None

In this workshop, students will learn how to cut out their pattern pieces, grind and fit them into place, wrap them with copper foil, burnish them, flux and solder their patterns together, and finally, clean and polish their piece. If desired, students may patina the finished piece with black or copper. You will finish the workshop with a lovely ornament!

Syllabus

  • Choose one of the patterns provided
  • Cut out glass pieces
  • Grind and fit them into place
  • Wrap each piece with copper foil
  • Burnish the pieces
  • Flux and solder your ornament together
  • Clean up and polish  
  • Patina the finished piece black or copper if you wish

Supplies

Everything will be provided in the kit you buy when registering for the class, including glass, foil, solder, flux, cleaner, and the use of the tools.

Please also bring with you:

  • Ultrafine black marker
  • Rubber gloves
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Safety glasses
  • Any tools you have (please put your name on them)

Tools that you will borrow in class:

  • Glass cutters
  • Runner pliers
  • Grozier pliers
  • Soldering iron

You are welcome to bring a bagged lunch and there are also local places to get food like Subway and Filosophi on Cumberland Ave, and Dairy Queen on College St.
