Camp Counsellor

Dates, wage, and hours

  • Start date: June 28, 2024
  • End date: August 31, 2024
  • Application deadline: May 13, 2024 or until positions are filled
  • Wage: Minimum $16/hour and dependent on education and experience
  • Hours: Minimum of 35 hours per week and maximum of 40 hours per week with prior approval

Duties and responsibilities

In the appointment of camp counsellor with the Community Arts Program, your general duties and responsibilities will be assisting in overseeing art projects in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and mixed media, collecting and preparing supplies, helping participants understand and complete projects, lead participants on excursions to campus, running physical activities and ice breakers, daily set-up and take-down, signing children in and out each day, supervising children during the lunch hour, and setting up the end-of-week art show. Duties are shared and rotated among camp counsellors.

Skills and abilities

We are looking for students who enjoy working with children, have an interest in art education, and have excellent communications skills in English. Experience assisting in the delivery of art programming to children aged 5-11 is an asset. Experience working in educational team environments is also an asset. Candidates who also speak a second language will be given preference. 

Please also note that if hired, you will be required to have a current first aid certificate and a recent (within the last 6 months) vulnerable sector criminal record check.
